Bruce Springsteen,Robert Deniro and Mel Brooks have been chosen to be honored at this year's Kennedy Center Honors Gala as "extraordinary individuals whose unique and abundant artistry has contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world."

The celebration of their careers will take place in Washington D.C. at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama in attendance.

The President and his wife will also hold a reception for the honorees at the White House the day before the Gala in addition to Hillary Clinton having a dinner for the guests of honor at the State Department.

Brooks is being honored "for the hilarity of his movies and musicals," DeNiro for his "legendary commitment to his characters" and The Boss for his "gritty and honest songs that speak to the everyman."

The gala will be broadcast on December 29th on CBS.

Lisa Ling, the sister of one of the two US reporters jailed in North Korea, received a phone call on Tueday that allowed her the smallest bit of relief in this tragic circumstance.

"It was a tremendous relief to hear Laura's voice last night," said the journalist regarding a call from her sister Laura. "It was only the first time I have heard her voice in weeks. That silence has been just so terrifying and deafening."

Laura Ling and Euna Lee were sentenced by North Korean courts to 12 years of "reform through labor" for illegal border crossing.

Lisa said that Laura "was very specific about the message she was communicating and she said, 'look, we violated North Korean law and we need our government to help us. We're sorry about everything that happened but now we need diplomacy."

Since no one has physically seen Laura or Euna, it is difficult to tell how they are holding up in prison.

US officials - led by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - have appealed for clemency on humanitarian grounds and asked that the case not be linked to the ongoing nuclear standoff.

If you are a celebrity or public figure, we recommend staying away from the nation's capitol for awhile. Bad shiz is going down over there, and celebs are getting screwed left and right!

This weekend marks the date of World Refugee Day, and in honor of the occasion, several events have been planned for the high-profiled names helping the cause. One such event was planned for Thursday, and as a source explains, a bit of bad luck clouded the festivities.

Among the noted guests were Hillary Clinton, Anderson Cooper, and Angelina Jolie.

Well, as we mentioned, poor Hillary slipped and broke her arm, so that took her out of the event. Then, Anderson Cooper's plane was struck by LIGHTING! Geez, what kind of sign from God is that? Anderson is a deets journalist.

And speaking of journalists and perhaps the worst bit of luck, with all the other guests injury or fried by lighting, poor Angelina Jolie was forced to spend the evening with Ann Curry!

Terrible!

Someone should start a support group for poor Angie!

Ouchie!

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fractured her right elbow on Wednesday when she fell on her way to the White House.

She will be undergoing surgery to repair the broken bone.

Unfortunately, she's had to cancel a public appearance alongside Angelina Jolie for World Refugee Day because she literally won't be able to rub elbows with the saint.

Rumors are swirling that Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Bill and Hillary, will tie the knot with boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky at Martha's Vineyard in August.

According to residents of the Vineyard, the liberal power couple (Mezvinsky is the son of two former Democratic congresspeople) will marry at the home of power broker, Vernon Jordan's multi-acre estate.

Will President Obama show up?

The Obama family does have plans to visit Martha's Vineyard in August!!!

Although the Clinton family denies the event, we hear wedding bells!

Happy news for former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton!

According to the National Enquierer, their daughter, 29-year-old Chelsea Clinton, is getting married this summer!

Chelsea and her civilian beau, Marc Mezvinsky, are said to be tying the knot in a $1 million wedding. And with a combined income of $109 million, the Clintons can definitely afford it!

Mezvinsky seems to be a good fit. The 31-year-old works in Wall Street and his dad is former Iowa congressman Ed Mezvinsky.

Bad part is daddy Mezvinsky has served time for investment fraud.

We hope that doesn't run in the family!

But on a good note, Ed has just been released from a halfway house and is out in time for the wedding.

A source reveals "Chelsea hasn't even admitted that she's engaged to Marc, but that's not stopping her from planning a wedding. She's always dreamed of having a special wedding, and these days that could set her parents back a million dollars, but they'd give her anything her heart desires for the event."

No definite wedding location has been set, though an insider says that "Hilton Head is a good bet because that's where she met Marc in 1993 at a Renaissance Weekend, an annual event for heavy-hitters that their families attended."

If the news is true, then Congratulations to the happy couple!

HBO is currently working on a TV movie based on the lives of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

You could probably make a few films about them with all their drama!

So, who's set to star in the flick as the President and First Lady in The Special Relationship?

The honor goes to Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore.

We're guessing they didn't select the actors just on looks, cuz there's no way Hillary looks like Julianne!

Michael Sheen, who specializes in playing "real people", will also be in the flick playing British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Who's gonna play Monica Lewinsky?????

Kirstie Alley? Beth Ditto?

Former First Kitty, Socks the cat, has been put to rest after twenty good years and a final battle with throat cancer since November.

Socks started out as a stray cat who was saved by Chelsea Clinton. He then lived in the Governor's Mansion in Arkansas with Bill and Hillary Clinton, and moved into the White House with the family during Clinton's presidency.

After Socks' stint in the White House, he moved in with Betty Currie, the president's personal secretary, who had become attached to the kitty and asked if she could adopt him.

Betty even cooked for Socks, who had a penchant for chicken.

In a statement, the Clintons said, "Socks brought much happiness to Chelsea and us over the years, and enjoyment to kids and cat lovers everywhere. We're grateful for those memories, and we especially want to thank our good friend, Betty Currie, for taking such loving care of Socks for so many years."

Rest in peace, Socks! May you romp forever in fields of cat nip in the sky!
